About this Painting:

There is a Magnolia tree right outside my studio window. I see the furry buds appear in February and watch as they grow into majestic blossoming petals come May. When the moon is full it sits right above the magnolia tree in the sky and she appears to be reaching up to the moon, thanking him for his silvery light. This piece is inspired by the feel of this moon/magnolia tree exchange…vivid color and sweeping movement towards an inky night sky. Moonlight Magnolia is part of the Spring 2021 collection, Signs of Life and pairs beautifully with Mother Holds.

About the Signs of Life Collection:

This collection of original abstracts features layered moments of movement, bold pops of color on earth tones, patterns of striped lines, shapes shifting between hard edges and gradient softness and imperfect drawings scratched away.

I aimed to portray how nature moves forward and comes rushing back to life despite the harshest of winters. The earth reflects this in the flowering trees, and green stalks shooting out of frigid soil…it truly feels like all life is reawakening and coming out of the dark. The collection is inspired by botanical forms and the shifting landscape of my home garden.  “Signs of Life” is also a nod to extra terrestrials as I’ve abstracted the natural life forms. We are and life is experiencing a new transmutation. Things are growing, unearthing, shedding, releasing, unfurling, grasping, reaching, birthing, sowing. The world is coming back to life after a pandemic, but it has changed.

We have changed.
