About this Painting:

This abstract botanical incorporates sweeping petal like strokes of earthy color punctuated with pops of rich jewel tones. The movement in this piece creates a sort of tension, pulling the shapes apart so that they appear to be flying or floating on water. The lotus is a deeply meaningful flower, representing spiritual enlightenment and rebirth. The shifting shapes in this piece are being transformed, as if the painting is living itself. The painting sits within an unfinished maple float frame. Water Lotus is part of the May 2021 collection, Signs of Life and pairs beautifully with Water Lily.

About the Signs of Life Collection:

This collection of original abstracts features layered moments of movement, bold pops of color on earth tones, patterns of striped lines, shapes shifting between hard edges and gradient softness and imperfect drawings scratched away.

I aimed to portray how nature moves forward and comes rushing back to life despite the harshest of winters. The earth reflects this in the flowering trees, and green stalks shooting out of frigid soil…it truly feels like all life is reawakening and coming out of the dark. The collection is inspired by botanical forms and the shifting landscape of my home garden.  “Signs of Life” is also a nod to extra terrestrials as I’ve abstracted the natural life forms. We are and life is experiencing a new transmutation. Things are growing, unearthing, shedding, releasing, unfurling, grasping, reaching, birthing, sowing. The world is coming back to life after a pandemic, but it has changed.

We have changed.
