About this Painting:

This piece began from an orchid in my home studio. The curvature of the stem and delicate leaves, the architectural beauty in the line of that flower inspired each stroke. Shapes began to take form as if loaves of bread were toppling over one another and the piece held more weight. I made me think of the things mothers carry, the never ending balancing act of being both strong and tender, like an orchid. This last year has perhaps, been the greatest test of that balance.Mother Holds is part of the Spring 2021 collection, Signs of Life and pairs beautifully with Moonlight Magnolia.

About the Signs of Life Collection:

This collection of original abstracts features layered moments of movement, bold pops of color on earth tones, patterns of striped lines, shapes shifting between hard edges and gradient softness and imperfect drawings scratched away.

I aimed to portray how nature moves forward and comes rushing back to life despite the harshest of winters. The earth reflects this in the flowering trees, and green stalks shooting out of frigid soil…it truly feels like all life is reawakening and coming out of the dark. The collection is inspired by botanical forms and the shifting landscape of my home garden.  “Signs of Life” is also a nod to extra terrestrials as I’ve abstracted the natural life forms. We are and life is experiencing a new transmutation. Things are growing, unearthing, shedding, releasing, unfurling, grasping, reaching, birthing, sowing. The world is coming back to life after a pandemic, but it has changed.

We have changed.
